This year in March, UGC announced CUET as the mandatory entrance exam for students seeking admission to any central university. Earlier, the Common Entrance Test was first held for admissions into seven central universities, and later more universities started conducting their admission process entrance test through CUCET.
The University Grants Commission has implemented a standard entrance test for all universities to stop ever-rising university cut-offs. Since state boards frequently don’t award grades as generously as the Central Board of Secondary Examination, there may be some inequity in the admissions process for universities admission.
CUET is introduced to make things easier for the students of state boards. This entrance examination, which is viewed as a single-window chance for students to apply to many universities, is administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and appointed for carrying out these examinations.
By avoiding the costs associated with several admission exams, candidates will save time, effort, and money with just one entrance test that all the central universities of India will take part in. This reformative approach will lessen the burden on students, universities and institutions, and the entire educational system by bringing “substantial impartiality” to the admissions process and “equitable opportunity” for applicants to appear in a single national umbrella test.
Through the CUET examination, students can be admitted into 45 reputed Central Universities in India after qualifying for the entrance tests. NTA conducted the CUET exam for the first time this year and will be held once a year in the coming admission years. This year about 86 universities are participating in CUET-UG, which includes 12 deemed universities, and 18 private universities across the country apart from the Central Universities in India. Students can prepare for the entrance tests after completing their board exam for class 12. The CUET 2022 Syllabus is not very challenging, and students can ace the entrance with the necessary knowledge in aptitude and understanding of fundamental scientific principles.
What’s the importance of the CUET exam for students?
It has been noted in recent years that the cut-offs for admission to reputable central universities are extremely high. Many students cannot enrol in reputable universities for admission into UG Courses because of the high cut-offs. Research has shown that the evaluation patterns used by the CBSE, ICSE, and State Boards are distinct, which is one of the key reasons that is creating impartiality in the admission systems for higher education.Â
Due to the different evaluation processes of mark allotment, some students would have fewer marks than others, which causes not all students to have the same opportunities to apply to reputed universities for higher studies. In order to address this issue, it has been determined to hold the CUET Exam, a common entrance test. After the CUET 2022 results are released, the National Testing Agency will create a common merit list, and students will be admitted based on this list.
The primary objective of CUET is to establish a common framework of a platform to offer students an equal opportunity in India regardless of the marks they secured in the class 12 board exam. It is also a big opportunity for students from rural areas of India to have a chance to apply to Central Universities if they pass the entrance admission test. Students can go to the official website of NTA to know details on the eligibility criteria to fill up the application form and other crucial admission information.
CUET exam pattern understanding
The entrance examination is divided into three sections, the first of which is on language proficiency with two segments A1; 14 Indian languages and A2; additional language options not included in the A1 segment, the second section of which is on the particular subject domain for which the students are applying, and the third of which is based on general aptitude. Additionally, choosing alternatives from each section is optional and must adhere to the specifications of the selected universities.

Tips to qualify the entrance
It is recommended that students should choose the language and courses they took in their 12th class. The exam is conducted online and requires preparation. It is advised to take as many mock exams as possible to become familiar with the format and pattern of the exam. By using the free sample papers on the internet, one can practise and understand how an online testing system operates.
The CUET exam is crucial since it aids students from any background in developing their careers. This massive scale entrance exam implementation was in accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), which states that there should be a standardised entrance test for admission to higher education institutions to ensure a consistent level of assessment for applicants.
